Abe de Vries was in 1933 samen met Sipke Castelein winnaar van de Elfstedentocht. Hierover schreef hij zijn eigen verhaal. Ook schreef hij alles op over de tocht van 1940 en van 1941. Hier is het verhaal over 1942, de Tocht der Mysterieën. Tot slot is er een weergave van de tocht van 1947, die zelfs tot gevolg had dat Abe de Vries verhuisde naar Frankrijk!
